“On the night of 10/11 December 1899 Digby-Jones RE VC blew up a Boer 4.7 inch Howitzer during a night sortie. On their way down they were attacked by the Pretoria Kommando, the young Deneys Reitz among them. The Boers killed 11 men of the Rifle Brigade. A cairn in their memory is situated at the base of the hill.
Access to this site is difficult and permission has to be obtained from the landowner. The use of a Guide is recommended.”
