Khambula Battlefield

29 March 1879

On the29 March 1879 some 22 000 Zulu warriors attacked the fortified British position at Khambula (shown on earlier maps as Kambula). The Battle started at 13:30 and ended around 17:30 when Zulus were driven off and pursued by horsemen until dark. The Zulus suffered heavy casualties in the battle, which basically broke the willpower of the Zulu Army to attack the British in force again until the Battle of Ulundi. The turn off to this site is some 10 km from Vryheid on the Paulpietersburg Road.

There is no on site information and the use of a Guide is recommended to enhance the experience of the site.
