Rorke’s Drift Battlefield
22-23 January 1879
After the Battle of Isandlwana the Zulu reserves, along with one regiment of the right horn, about 4000 warriors in total, crossed the Buffalo River and attacked the British Commissariat and Hospital at the Mission station at Rorke’s Drift. Approximately 140 soldiers, comprising about 90 men of “B” Company, 2nd Battalion 24th Regt and a handful of others fought for 11 hours to repel the attack earning 11 Victoria Crosses in the process.
