eMakhosini Opathe Heritage Park

This is the “Valley of the Kings” and within the park you will find the burial places of a number of early Zulu Kings and the “Spirit of Emakhosini” monument. There is also Mgungundlovu, the Royal Residence of King Dingane and kwaMatiwane where Voortrekker leader Piet Retief and his men were killed and subsequently buried. There is an excellent orientation centre with an audio visual display where the history of the region and the Zulu nation can be studied. To visit and obtain a detailed interpretation a visit to the Spirit of eMakhosini monument is recommended. An on-site guide will meet visitors and accompany them to the monument.

There is little on site information and the use of a Guide is recommended to enhance the experience of the site.
